We cordially invite you to a public guided tour in English through the exhibition Traces of Intimacy. Käthe Kollwitz and Contemporary Photography.
With her distinctive and moving visual language, Käthe Kollwitz ranks among the outstanding German artists of the 20th century. Even during her lifetime, she was a well-known and highly regarded artist who depicted social and societal themes with great intensity. The human being is at the heart of her work. Kollwitz, who lost a son and a grandson in the two world wars, grappled intensively with existential conflicts, suffering and vulnerability.
For the first time since 1987, the Chemnitz Art Collections are dedicating an extensive exhibition to Käthe Kollwitz, featuring prints and drawings from 1892 to 1938 drawn from their own rich collection. Reliefs and sculptures from the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Berlin complement the exhibition. The exhibition is a collaboration with Heidi Specker’s photography class at the HGB Leipzig, which engages intensively with the artist and her motifs. Their works explore the relevance of Kollwitz’s themes today and draw a connection to the present day.
You can find further dates in our events calendar. Admission to all public guided tours is included in the museum entry fee.
Places on public guided tours are limited to 24 people. Please book your tickets via our online ticket shop, which you will find as a tab on the right-hand side of our website. Due to the limited group size, we ask groups of 10 or more to book guided tours in advance. Thank you very much!
